“Eternity’s gates open wide and time shall be no more. Generations await the sentence for passing through life of “do what thou wilt”. Alas, a tragedy has befallen! Thus now reconsider or consume the wine of wrath!”
“Hellig Usvart” - the debut and only studio album recorded by Australian band Horde. Originally released in 1994 by Nuclear Blast, this album created controversy among black metal fans and allegedly saw death threats delivered to Nuclear Blast due to its anti-satanic lyrics. The sole member of the band, Jayson Sherlock, who used the pseudonym Anonymous, is best known as the drummer on the early and classic Mortification albums and later for joining doomsters Paramaecium. Norwegian for "holy unblack”, “Hellig Usvart” is considered a landmark release, regarded as the first and most groundbreaking Christian (un)black metal album.
Playing all instruments, as well as handling production and mixing, Sherlock created an extreme album similar to early 1990s Norwegian black metal – cold, primitive, lo-fi. With brutal blast beats, furious buzzing guitars, ambient keyboards and intense shrieked vocalist, this is old-school. Raw and grim and having almost reached cult status, this classic is now available on vinyl for the first time ever!
More Info about this legendary album:
Released in shear controversy from Nuclear Blast in 1994, Horde’s “holy unblack metal” assault on the metal realm and specifically towards black metal and other genre forms steeped in occultism, rebellion, blasphemy, and Satanism gained immediate worldwide attention. Horde's uncompromising lyrical decapitation of wickedness and blistering black metal approach Lead to members of Nuclear Blast management being targeted with death threats from satanic black metal cults. Horde’s one and only album “Hellig Usvart” was viewed as an utter abomination and disgrace towards the satanic underground and the black metal movement as a whole that had been in progression for well over a decade by this time. And thus it was! And from the sole creator who lived in secrecy by the pseudonym “Anonymous”, Horde’s total brutalizing attack on the evil forces was irreversible. Horde had been unleashed and there was nothing that anyone could do about it! In the vein of some of the best unholy black metal acts of all time such as Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, and Gorgoroth, Horde became the ultimate antithesis to what these powerful pagan-based, satanic bands epitomized. In this wake, Horde forged the way for many “unblack metal” bands to follow over the years including Antestor, Drottnar, Frosthardr, Frost Like Ashes, Crimson Moonlight, Fire Throne, Wrathful Plague, Seregost, and a multitude of underground productions from SneeuwStorm Produkties (Holland) and various unblack metal die hards. “Hellig Usvart” simply is Norwegian for “Holy Unblack”. Inside the CD is written “Horde leker hellig unblack metal spesiellt. Vi er de sane uddeligne, forbinder oss!” which in English means “Horde play holy unblack metal exclusively. We are the true immortal ones, join us!” - the holy defiant stance against such metal iniquities. “Total apocalyptic electric lead and rhythm guitars, tranquil classical guitar, atmospheric keyboards, cataclysmic bass rumblings, volcanic percussive eruptions and shrieks of the nocturnal forest” are what will blast the listener in the face with eternal truth and proclamations of woe and demise for the forces of evil and those who bask in it! This would be the sole release by Horde if it were not for the monumental live album that was produced by Soundmass in late 2006 at Nordic Fest entitled “The Day of Total Armageddon Holocaust: Alive in Oslo” which marked Anonymous’s return after 12 years!
“…and be enthroned on the Northern sides of that Great Mountain. Far above the clouds didst thou aspire to but alas, this was not to be! So fallen thou art as lightening to earth, having once angelic splendor now the vilest abomination, an abode for maggots thou art! A shame that once so beautiful, all is lost to become nothing. Behold! Lucifer, son of the morning, thine hour hast come! Thou will be stripped of power and be lowered into the very depths of hell! Thy fate is worse than death! Eternal suffering and damnation!!!”
